In an article entitled Rose Growing in Western Kansas in the American Rose Annual 1950, Mrs. Harry Gibson writes that although their neighbors were skeptical at first, she and Mr. Gibson persevered in their goal to grow roses successfully in western Kansas. In just three years' time, their garden grew from fifteen to 84 roses. Because Kansas winters can be quite severe, the Gibsons ordered from northern nurseries. The article includes other planting and care advice for rosegrowers in Kansas.
