Early autumn, zone 9b. This year the hips are egg-shaped, as initially described at Bishop's Lodge, Hay, though I have seen them appearing round in 2 previous years. This summer was unusually cool (only a few days over 37C), but that seems unlikely to be relevant, since Hay probably hasn't had a cool summer in a century.
