Introduced by Unknown in 1878 as 'Rosa californica Cham. & Schlecht.'.
Class:
Species / Wild.  
Bloom:
Pink.  Strong, cinnamon, clove, spice fragrance.  5 petals.  Average diameter 1.5".  Small, single (4-8 petals), in large clusters bloom form.  Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom.  
Habit:
Arching, armed with thorns / prickles, bushy, suckers on its own roots, upright.  Medium, matte foliage.  7 to 9 leaflets.  

Height: 3' to 7' (90 to 215cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Vigorous.  produces decorative hips.  Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood..  Needs little care; relatively disease-free and quite hardy.
