Deep pink to lavender.  Moderate fragrance.  5 petals.  Average diameter 2".  Large, single (4-8 petals), borne mostly solitary bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Short, armed with thorns / prickles, suckers on its own roots, upright.  Medium, matte, light green, leathery foliage.  3 to 7 leaflets.  
Growing:
USDA zone 2b through 9b.  Very hardy.  vigorous.

Notes:
Rosa acicularis Lindl. var. bourgeauiana Crép. is a synonym of R. acicularis subsp. sayi according to the Germplasm Resources Information Network of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. See References. Rosa acicularis Lindl. var. bourgeauiana Crép. was initially differentiated from the species by slightly larger flowers and rounder hips. Occurs in polar regions of North America in forested areas.
