Introduced in France by Jean-Pierre Vibert in before 1837 as 'Archevêque de Besançon'.
Class:
Hybrid China, Hybrid Gallica.  
Bloom:
Deep pink, purple shading.  Mild fragrance.  Average diameter 2".  Medium, full (26-40 petals), nodding or "weak neck" bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Arching, compact.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Very vigorous.
