Bred by Gilbert Nabonnand (1828-1903) (France, 1878).
Introduced in Australia by C. F. Newman and Sons - Adelaide in 1894 as 'Alphonse Karr'.

Class:

Tea.

Bloom:

Crimson - purple, lighter center. Moderate fragrance. Large, double (17-25 petals), scalloped bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.

Habit:

Bushy.

Growing:

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).

Patents:

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Parentage:

seedling of Duchess of Edinburgh (tea, Nabonnand, 1874)

Notes:

Walter Branchi says Adolphe Karr was used in the breeding of 'Mme. Antoine Rébé', which see...
Other references list the parent of 'Mme Antoine Rébé' is A. Karr, which could be Alphonse Karr.
