Alba, Gallica / Provins.

Bloom:

Light pink, ages to white . Strong fragrance. Small to medium, very double bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.

Habit:

Few or no prickles/thorns.

Height: 4' to 7' (120 to 215cm). Width: 4' to 5' (120 to 150cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 3b through 9b. Prune after flowering is finished.

Notes:

There's some confusion about 'Chloris' the Gallica and 'Chloris' the Alba. According to Joyaux, this resulted from an error Jules Gravereaux made in his catalog of roses that grew in Josephine's garden at Malmaison. Gravereaux classed this rose with the Gallicas, but Joyaux believes it is one and the same with the Hybrid Alba of Descemet. See both roses for more information.

DNA analysis has shown that 'Chloris' is closely related to 'Belle Flore'. - see References.

'Alba Regia' differs from 'Cloris' by its fuller bloom with deeper coloured centre, stronger, greener, pricklier branches. - see References.
