The "World Peace 2000" rose was named by Pamela Pace in support of Flight Of The Phoenix World Peace 2000, a not for private profit business dedicated to promoting world peace and uniting people of different nationalities and cultures.
The rose was first launched by Flight Of The Phoenix World Peace 2000 at the 1998 RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show as part of their award winning World Peace Garden® design.
"World Peace 2000" later formed part of Paul Chessum Roses' millennium collection, marketed under the banner "a new rose for a new century". UK councils now plant thousands of World Peace 2000 roses on November 6th each year as part of a national planting link up organised by Flight Of The Phoenix World Peace 2000. People of all ages and cultural backgrounds gather to plant the rose; dried rose petals are scattered, special plaques unveiled and a minute’s silence for world peace is held . Members of the public also join in by planting the rose in their own home environment.
Flight Of The Phoenix World Peace 2000 also supply the rose with gift card via mail order.
