1941. Australian Rose Annual p124. A PROMINENT ROSARIAN Mr. Charles L. W. Newman, who passed away last year, was one of West Australia's most prominent horticulturists. He was a Vice-president of the Rose Society and came to Western Australia in 1895 from South Australia, where he had lived since his birth in 1858. He was a member of his father's firm in South Australia and came to the West to open a branch of the business in which he was eminently successful, and many beautiful Rose gardens in and around Perth stand as a monument to his life's work there. He was the first to introduce Roses on the Fortuniana stock, in the year 1903, which has been so successful in Western Australia, and was always confident that there was no stock to equal it.
