Introduced in United Kingdom by Pennell & Sons Nursery in 1974 as 'Richard Pennell'.

Early Large Flowered.  
Bloom:
Purple, rose-red shading.  6 to 8 petals.  Average diameter 8".  Single, saucer-shaped bloom form.  Late summer.  
Habit:

Height: 8' to 10' (245 to 305cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Plant in sun or partial shade.  Suitable for growing in a container.  It blooms on the previous year's growth, so resist the urge to prune it in early spring.
