Origin:
Bred by Alister Keay (New Zealand).
Introduced in New Zealand by New Zealand Clematis Nurseries in circa 1975 as 'Prince Charles'.
Introduced in United Kingdom by Fisk's Clematis Nursery in circa 1986 as 'Prince Charles'.
Class:
Large-flowered, Late.  
Bloom:
Mauve.  4 to 6 petals.  Average diameter 4".  Single, ruffled edge, semi-nodding, veined bloom form.  Early summer to early autumn.  
Habit:

Height: 6' to 8' (185 to 245cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Plant in sun or partial shade.  Suitable for growing in a container.  Disease susceptibility: mildew.  In early spring, cut back to just above the lowest set of healthy buds.
